Camp Polk Residence is a new custom home located in Sisters, Oregon - a town proximal to the Pacific Coast Trail on the edge of Deschutes National Forest. The property feels quintessentially high desert, dotted with sagebrush and juniper trees and postcard views of Black Butte. During the initial design phase, the orientation of the home was carefully considered with respect to Black Butte and the movement of the sun throughout the seasons.

Camp Polk Residence was designed to respond to the language of its surroundings. The courtyard and driveway were designed to preserve the larger trees on the property, resulting in a home delicately placed on the land without disturbing it. The main entry is accessed through the courtyard that approaches a fully glass volume that captures views of Black Butte through the glazing.

In contrast to the dark exterior, the interiors of Camp Polk Residence are distinctly bright. The home is organized into two primary wings connected by a communal core, with various flat and shed roof sections of the house resulting in an interior experience with exciting spatial contrasts. A dark stone fireplace wall functions as a focal point and visual anchor in the living room. Nine foot ceilings at the main living space open up to fifteen foot sloped ceilings in the kitchen. The varied ceiling heights create a great room that feels completely distinct yet simultaneously connected.

The kitchen opens up to a large covered outdoor patio, ideal for long Pacific Northwest summer nights, strategically oriented to capture sunlight through the seasons and protect from harsh wind. A second covered outdoor space provides shelter to enjoy the courtyard and also serves as a connection between the garage to the main house.
