Wax Orchard North is a new custom designed residence located on Vashon Island. Situated in the Puget Sound between Seattle and Tacoma, the region has a quintessential Pacific Northwest feel. The island’s natural beauty and rugged charm inspired the timeless and modern exterior facade, which reimagines the agricultural architectural typology found in the area. The natural cedar siding and gabled roof  harken to the past while simultaneously creating an understated Scandinavian influenced simplicity that organically integrates this residence to its rural environment.
In contrast with the dark outer shell, the interior palette exhibits a natural and textured warmth designed to embrace family living. In plan, the residence is divided into three volumes - the middle containing all the main living spaces (living room, kitchen and dining room). The two-story volume contains all the sleeping areas, home office and a family room. The third volume contains the garage and mud room. The residence enjoys incredible views to the east and south and on a clear day has a direct line of sight to Mount Rainier. A fluid continuity between the indoors and outdoors is created through large sliding glass doors throughout the home, opening the indoors to its pastoral surroundings.
